What Is Senior Home Care?

Posted on

The seniors in your life deserve the best care, but some of them may not want to resort to moving into a nursing home until they absolutely have to. In that case, it would be good to look into senior home care services to make sure they are taken care of when they need these services.

What Is Senior Home Care?

Senior home care involves having a nurse or caregiver come into your own home to provide any services that a senior may not be able to complete themselves. They come into your home and place of comfort to provide personal care services as well. For example, if a senior struggles to get dressed on their own, someone would be in the home to assist.

What Kind of Services Can Be Provided?

There is a wide variety of services that can be provided in the home. These services include:

  • Cleaning
  • Meal prep
  • Grocery shopping
  • Showers and bathing
  • Dressing
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Medication set-ups

There are many more services that can be provided while in the comfort of their home, so don't be afraid to inquire with an agency about a service you are hoping your parent can receive.

How Does Senior Home Care Work?

Senior home care services work very easily. The seniors and their families will need to find an individual who is able to provide the services or hire an agency to provide the services. It's important to make sure you find someone you trust though.

Before any services begin though, the agency or individual will have to get the okay from the insurance company to make sure that they pay. If the senior would prefer to not use insurance and pay out of pocket, the agency would need to negotiate a rate with the senior.

There will usually be a meet and greet with the nurse and caregivers that will be providing the senior's care to make sure they are comfortable with each other. After this happens, and the senior and caregiver or nurse decide they are both comfortable, the services are able to begin for the senior.

Does Insurance Cover Senior Home Care?

Most insurance companies will cover some of the cost of senior home care services. The agency will work closely with the insurance company to ensure that they will pay before even beginning the services.
